Especially the wikimedia Commons or something similar is perhaps a good 
way to solve the problem of "image-link-cemetery" as it allows versioning.

I don't have to add a second image link; I can add a new Version for a 
file, if I think. it's better (and discuss it with the community).

If there is an additional system to add non-replacing alternative new 
versions, that would be even better.
