This seems to be the right thread for another issue with the links on the left:

What about giving the wiki more prominence? I'm also not arguing about
the slippy map on the front page, but I think the wiki is now almost
"hidden" (small link "documentation", while the main wiki page is
actually a kind of "front page" which could (IMHO should) be the "main
link" on the slippy map.

It explains the project ("Welcome to OpenStreetMap, the project that
creates and provides free geographic data and mapping to anyone who
wants it. We started it because most maps you think of as free
actually have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding
back people from using them in creative, productive, or unexpected
ways.") and features a calendar, news and links to the major
categories.
