[OSM-talk] Making iD the default editor on osm.org

Thank you for summarizing, Bryce.

I'll comment specifically from the perspective of making iD default, which
means in essence, making sure that we're in critical features on par with
Potlatch 2. To have a constructive discussion we'll need to stay on topic.

Any specific issues here should be reported on
http://github.com/systemed/iD/issues . We need to make performance issues
concrete.

To this point, ID's done a lot more than Potlatch 2 to provide guidance to
a new user:

- first-time user walkthrough
- inline tag documentation via taginfo
- more comprehensive help (that one was easy ;-)

There are for sure places to improve, but I don't think anyone has made a
convincing case for how iD is promoting worse editing than the current
Potlatch 2.

There are concerns that iD (and thus osm.org) will promote Facebook and

Same as on P2 or on JOSM, not relevant for default or not discussion.

Right, no anonymous bug reports, just like P2, the OSM web site ;-)
https://github.com/openstreetmap/potlatch2/issues

Again, beyond the topic of this issue.

As a quick improvement let's add relations as a topic to iD's inline help:
https://github.com/systemed/iD/issues/1708

Right, they would be great to have. OT.

Sorry for harping on staying on topic here. My intention is not to stave
off feedback, but to make a decision on when to flip the switch
constructive.

Thanks -

Alex
