Hi Roland

Nice feature I've been waiting for for quite some time.
I'll check your proposal.
We have implemented a similar functionality some time ago in
OpenPOIMap (http://bit.ly/VKfQwS ) and presented it at FOSSGIS.
It's also opensource.
