I have seen this message on HOT mailing list and I plan on making "Courtyard" page
on OSM Wiki that would

* show how this can be edited in iD, JOSM, Vespucci (with easy to follow illustrated
tutorial)
* link to multipolygon page for extra technical info.

I also thought that iD on searching "courtyard" as a feature could show
mini-tutorial how to make multipolygon in this editor (I have not opened issue
or looked through existing ones)

Feel free to steal either idea, I have huge supply of them :)

Also, man_made=courtyard is something that likely should be deprecated as
confusing, pointless and bringing no benefit and making more confusing how
to map courtyards and encouraging pointless adding it to millions of building
inners (so far I only asked on talk page at
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Tag:man_made%3Dcourtyard
maybe there is some reason for it that I missed
).
