Onerous rules are not good by itself, the ideal ones would keep all bad
automated edits out of OSM.
The problem is that this rules are almost never truly followed and actually
important (discuss edit, give time to reply) are mixed with not really important,
like request to state you real name.
See https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct
and https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Category:Automated_edits_log
where pages documenting all automated edits are supposed to be
- vast majority is not.
Current situation is that we have onerous rules + lack of enforcement[1].
It results in people completely ignoring all of rules or making de facto bot edits
via Maproulette[2].
[1] Reminder: reverting of not discussed automated edit may be done be anyone,
without any additional justification required, for example with JOSM revert plugin.
[2] like https://maproulette.org/browse/challenges/16995
"Change key 'website' or 'contact:website' with a Facebook URL to 'contact:facebook'."
or https://maproulette.org/browse/challenges/14900 (adding "brand:wikidata" and
"brand:wikipedia" based on name match, "Tips: you can add them with a single click on iD editor."
