Totally agree with this.
If you make an automated or semi-automated edits (I do quite a lot
of these) if somebody from local mappers complains - you must contact
and agree on a mutually acceptable solution. Automated edit is on a
"less important" position as it does not require any reasonable effort
while actual mapping - does.
Even better: before proceeding to fully automated edits it is a good
idea to do quite a lot of semi-automated edits (QA detects issues
which you review-fix manually in JOSM). This way you can find some
patterns you never thought about, you can also see that some people
are mapping X for some purpose Y you also never thought about - good
reason to contact and discuss/understand your surroundings get some
new/fresh ideas.
