John,

you have more risk of conflicts with more complex situation then adding building. For example, if
- you edit a long primary road that exceed your bbox
- you edit administrative border relations, etc.
Let's come back to the example of the school. They invited people to come if only even for 15 minutes to help for disaster. Thats the kind of situation where we see a lot of «Hit and Run newbies ».
It would be better if groups like HOT and MissingMaps develop a program to support organizations and show them how to have diferent Roles like new mapper, validator, etc and where the manager of the group take the responsability to deliver quality data.

So it's probably a matter of saying to the mappers upload little and often and don't close iD down until you get confirmation the upload has completed and give it a few moments to retag the assets as uploaded.

How do we get the message out?

John,
I had similar experiment with JOSM when huge edit conflicts.  I dont know if this is because my changeset was closed before I finished revision / correcting all the conflicts (nodes + ways) and re-submit, but I did have duplicates that I had to remove.

That doesn't make sense to me.  I've done a lot of validation for HOT.  When validating I corrected and provided feedback but as far as I am aware there is no mechanism for me to reject the edits.
The thing that mystifies me is where the second buildings are coming from.  Once iD has put them up to the database then they should no longer be tagged as uploadable unless it is something really stupid like close iD down before it confirms the edits have been uploaded.  On that case iD will think they still need to go and next time it does an upload it will upload them again.
Would someone like to try it?
It's the sort of thing a new mapper might do not realising you must leave iD open until the upload is confirmed.
If this is the case and I strongly suspect it is the answer of course is simple.  Include in the instructions to wait until iD has confirmed the upload.
