this is something that would probably be more suitable for the tagging mailing list to discuss (cc ing). There are similar examples, maybe building=detached. Once certain numbers have been reached, it becomes more difficult to overcome such issues, because well meaning gardeners will come along and retag theatre:type=amphitheatre to amphi for the sake of unification.

A general issue with theatres is the combination of physical aspects (like amphitheatre) with properties that relate to a troupe/business. In some cases the same physical theatre is used by multiple troupes for example, and current tagging may lead to the impression there are several physical theatres.
