Hi everyone,
Thank you for showing interest in the project and for sharing your thoughts.
Thank you in particular for the tip about the Caribbean mailing list, where I have now also posted our message.
To address your other comments, let me give you some more insight into our ways of working.
To create the leads, our experienced GIS engineers compare the geometry of the TomTom map to OSM. This geometry has been internally validated by TomTom mappers. We have not used GPS traces for this challenge.
When working on the tasks in the challenge, our expert editors will verify whether the suggested roads actually exist by making use of the most accurate and up-to-date imagery sources available. The Caribbean challenge is part of a global Missing Roads project (https://maproulette.org/browse/projects/46322). The distribution of the task statuses in the other challenges of that project shows that we only work on valid leads.
We abide by the rules of Organised Editing (https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Organised_Editing_Guidelines). We are grateful when the community provides suggestions and appreciate any contributions made during the required two weeks of waiting time after announcing a project.
Marjan

You don't often get email from aamackie at gmail.com<mailto:aamackie at gmail.com>. Learn why this is important<http://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
There is a talk-carib list that's used (rarely) for these sorts of announcements.
How have these missing roads been validated? In some low lying areas scars that look like roads can persist for decades in imagery despite having become entirely unsuitable for travel.

Hello everyone,
I'm Marjan from TomTom.
I would like to inform you of a project we have planned in the Caribbean, more specifically in the following countries: Aruba, the Bahamas, Saint Barthélemy, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Martin, Montserrat, Sint Maarten, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and the British Virgin Islands.
In these countries, we have compared TomTom's own map to OSM, and identified missing roads in OSM based on this analysis.
The missing roads can be added to OSM in this MapRoulette challenge:
https://maproulette.org/browse/challenges/24293<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmaproulette.org%2Fbrowse%2Fchallenges%2F24293&data=04%7C01%7COSM%40tomtom.com%7C9c5c88b93e3f457a4a2c08d9e5610ae2%7C374f80267b544a3ab87d328fa26ec10d%7C0%7C0%7C637793027977023463%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=YIMFZ4FARlkvmmSQD4%2FHKf9njpLwtwBIxiqdxbMuy2o%3D&reserved=0>
We will begin working on these tasks in a few weeks, and we invite you to contribute as well.
Don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or suggestions. Specifically, please let me know if you are aware of any channels where I can reach the OSM users active in the Caribbean in particular.
Kind regards,
Marjan
