I'm in the community! For national or international brands, I will never
add a top-level website to a location, and I consider it an error to do
so. (I could imagine a brand:website tag -- but how many "brand" tags do
we need? iD already gives warnings if you have less than three, and
sometimes insists on more. I digress.)
For local and regional chains that only have a few locations, I will
happily add the top-level website if they don't have per-location pages.
The middle between the two extremes might be a bit muddy, but brands
like Starbucks and McDonald's are nowhere near the middle.
Cheers, J
