I'm a little surprised by the board's notes as well. I'm not sure if the
problem is all together clear.

Good point. This is not about each community desperately wanting their
own little piece of map. This can sometimes be useful for sure, but
OpenStreetMap is also a global community where ideally we try to find
solutions to mapping problems for everyone, and despite plenty of
negativity, we do have our shares of successes where mappers from
different countries get together and figure out how to solve some problem.
Local variations in mapping are to be expected, but an outright
Balkanization of our community and its principal resources is ultimately
harmful. We might as well give up on the idea of transnational
cooperation and a truly global mapping database then.

And in addition to that: how visitors use the main site and what they
expect from it. It's our calling card after all.
