I'm writing to share an update to the Climate Trace organized editing
activity
<https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Organised_Editing/Activities/Climate_TRACE>
.

The Climate Trace coalition <http://climatetrace.org> has continued to
annotate electric power plants globally. This work has supported the
development of an open-source dataset <https://climatetrace.org/inventory>
of greenhouse gas emissions, and a project
<https://datascience.duke.edu/capstones/sizing-the-stack-predicting-stack-heights-using-satellite-imagery/>
at Duke University to estimate the height of power plant flue stacks
globally (an important part of modeling air quality impacts; git repo here
<https://gitlab.oit.duke.edu/mids-capstone-projects/2021-2022/stack-height-estimation>).
If you would like to help us with this work, or have ideas for how to use
this dataset, please let us know!

Now we are proposing to extend our annotation work to oil & gas
infrastructure. Our intent is to focus on well pads, compressor stations,
storage tanks and associated equipment that may be the source of fugitive
methane emissions. We recognize there is already extensive and high-quality
annotation of much of this infrastructure, so we will align our work
carefully with the WikiProject Oil & Gas Infrastructure
<https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Oil_and_Gas_Infrastructure> work. *Before
we begin, we would particularly like to speak with anyone currently
involved in this project or any related oil & gas annotation projects to
better understand what we could most usefully contribute*. If that's you,
please contact us directly.

Thank you -
Colin
