No, don’t drop OSM-Carto; it’s done a good job for us.
What is a problem though is the idea that any one style can be “standard” when they always have to make compromises between conflicting needs.
The most obvious solution is to raise the profile of alternative renderers and to encourage more of them.
So it would be a good idea to draw users’ attention to the layer button and offer more choices. Perhaps we could even stop having a single default style for first time use.
