Thanks @springmeyer- your most recent binary worked well for me on Mac OS OS X 10.8.5 (12F37).  FWIW, I'm a PostgreSQL newbie, and found the tutorial [Using OpenStreetMap Data with Open-Source GIS] (http://www.cartographicperspectives.org/index.php/journal/article/view/cp71-markieta/html) by @MichaelMarkieta to be a great for walking me through the process of importing .OSM files into QGIS with PostgreSQL and osm2pgsql for Mac OS.
