In an ideal world that would be the case and we tried that for a while. But fmt makes incompatible releases several times a year and doesn't even bother to properly document what changes need to be made and removes documentation of old versions quite quickly from their website making this extra difficult. We just don't have the time to keep up with this. Feel free to prepare a PR. But, as I said, we'll remove the library anyway sooner or later, so this problem will solve itself.
