Thanks that's valuable input, I suspected something like this could be a
problem but forgot about it in the meantime. Will change the behaviour
of i18n=1 accordingly, since LC_ALL=C doesn't hurt inkscape, but
overrides LANG=whatever.

On the other hand you should not use LC_ALL outside specific calls
because it acts as a sort of emergency override for everything locale
specific.
