The analogy to Wikipedia doesn't hold: The entry barrier for contributors there should be as low as possible, because they are, well, the contributors. Tile processors and uploaders on the other hand are not the casual contributors of content, our equivalent here would rather be GPX track uploaders. Making it a little more bothersome to get such an account won't hurt here.
