I'm moving this to tiles at home list, it is off-topic on dev and talk.

I can help with 2) and 3). You need to modiy the layers.conf file.
There are two entries in there already, just copy the first one and
use it as a base for your cycle layer, and adapt the style sheets
accordingly. Note that you do not *have* to create a style sheet for
each zoom level, you can also assign the same style to each level
(and diversify later).
You can name your layer anything you want in the config file (I
suggest using "Layer.cycle...."), but make sure that you add your
layer to the "Layers" config option at the top so that it is included
in processing, and set your "Layer.cycle.Prefix" to the value that
the server expects for the cycle layer - may be "cycle" as well but I
don't know.
