As already mailed I think I fixed this by removing the superfluous
strike-width. I think similar refactoring could be done for waterways
and other features. I see that you started doing this with highways
already...
Also breaking out one textfont class rather than mention Deju-Vu a 100
times might be worth. Don't know.
This gets me back to my idea of breaking out a common stylesheet that
applies to all zoom levels. Currently there is much duplication going on
and changes often have to be ported to all zoom levels. If you break out
the generic styles in one file and pull that in with something like:
<xi:include xmlns:xi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XInclude"
href="osm-map-c\ommon-styles.xml" /> (xmlstarlet seems to support that),
you could have the generic core, casing, landuse, default fonts and
other styles in one place.

I have only checked at z16 and z17, none is showing up there. Dunno for
lower zooms.
