One good part of the old APIs is that you can (easily) use them from
scripts. Could you please add a parameter to the info.php page that
renders the result as text? e.g.

http://dev.openstreetmap.org/~ojw/Tiles/info.php?x=2417&y=1606&z=12&layer=tile&mode=text

gives

size=2791 bytes
uploaded_on=<foo>
uploaded_from=<bar>
...
