Why?

The bug doesn't prevent the client from rendering.  The client will
just produce 24bit tiles instead of 8bit ones.  This is just the same
as the client did until a short while ago.  The only difference now is
that it is emitting tons of messages about the issue, but they don't
hurt anything.

So I don't think it is unreasonable to ask users to ignore those
messages for a while and update their system after the new pngnq
package has entered Debian testing.  If people are really annoyed by
them they can install the package from unstable.
