I have the client running on headless servers using Inkscape. Of
course, Inkscape depends on X as well, but that doesn't mean you need
to install an X server, the libraries are sufficient. I don't
remember how many extra packages I needed to install, but I can live
with it. This certainly wasn't worth the trouble to build and
maintain my own packages.

Inkscape only fails if $DISPLAY is set, but this should not
be the case if X is not running (and you didn't log in with X
forwarding active).

I don't think ImageMagick is required to run the client.
