[uMap] OSM for maps on a website

I have recommended OSM to a family running a small business who wish to add maps to their website, offering local walks from their premises. Simon Poole offered uMap as a solution, which gives me high hopes.  I am at a loss on two issues: 1. Is it possible to add text and symbols in the manner of sequential numerical pointers on the map that would relate to route directions?  2. How are .url links created in connection with markers?
