[uMap] OSM for maps on a website

I have recommended OSM to a family running a small business who wish to add maps to their website, offering local walks from their premises. Simon Poole offered uMap as a solution, which gives me high hopes.  I am at a loss on two issues: 1. Is it possible to add text and symbols in the manner of sequential numerical pointers on the map that would relate to route directions?  I have tried so many times without success to add text to a marker.  2. How are .url links created in connection with markers?
