[OSM-dev] Applet has Unicode problem

In the edit applet, when I use the "A" tool to edit attributes of
a way, to add more segments, the Unicode chars in the name of the
way gets messed up. This happens all the time on my new laptop
with Firefox 1.5.0.4 (Swedish language version), Windows XP
(Swedish language version) and J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update
6, but never on my old desktop with Firefox 1.5.0.4 (English
language version), SuSE Linux 9.1 and J2SE Runtime Environment
1.4.2_11-b06.

I upgraded the laptop to J2SE RE 5.0 Update 7, but this didn't
help.

I downgraded the laptop to JRE 1.4.2_12, but this didn't help.

Is this a known problem? The only difference I can see is the
English/Swedish language version and the Win/Linux OS.

After I have fixed the broken chars on the Linux desktop, and
switch over to the Windows laptop, the chars are alright the first
time I look at them. They seem to be messed up the first time I
click "OK" in the "A" tool on the Windows laptop. When I pan and
then use the "A" tool again, they get messed up twice. It's a
typical Unicode/Latin-1 mix up problem. The last thing I see in
the Java console on the Windows laptop is these lines:

Got response code 200
2006-jun-28 14:09:17 org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpMethodBase getResponseBody
WARNING: Going to buffer response body of large or unknown size. Using getResponseAsStream instead is recommended.
got reponse

(Yes, there is a spelling error on the last line.)

Also, but less important, the edit applet hangs ever so often.
Most times I can restart it by clicking the "Edit" tab again.
Some times I have to restart the browser. This happens on both
computers.
