It becomes, in a stroke, almost trivial for anyone to hack on it.

Right now there are lots of 'argh I cant install a dev server' emails.
Expect them to go away. Rails ties it all together. It also makes it
*easier* to code. Right now adding a feature is a nightmare. With rails
it's somewhat easier.

No. As part of deploying rails I wanted to have openlayers and fast maps
too. I'd also like richards flash thing up too... But you're right
insofar as they are seperate technologies and on seperate machines.
