Sandor,
This is a very interesting topic for me. I have done some work in
exactly this area with similar goals in mind. See for example:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSMonitor/Poland_Regional_Roads
This report helped a lot with remapping after redaction bot was finished
and left many roads in Poland disconnected and not routable.
My idea for this tool (OSMonitor) was exactly as you said it: publish
reports "[in] easy accessible place and in an easily
understandable/visual form to the forum of active editors".
This software is in very experimental state and only used by the Polish
community for now but after nearly 2 months I can say this approach
works. I meant to create a nice stop-motion video of the progress people
made with making the road network reports green - this would show how
they can mobilize around a single (and simple!) goal.
I believe this could be somehow a part of global OSM approach (whatever
that means :-) - to provide people with easily understandable feedback
about their mapping efforts. So instead of speaking in terms of ways,
nodes and relations, some may prefer to speak in terms of road numbers
(hello road geeks :-), others in terms of routing (is the route from
Warsaw to Berlin correct?) and some people like to map administrative
boundaries and check if Nominatim search works properly in their area.
Another aspect is monitoring - think when someone or something breaks
routing or a boundary - local community would get an e-mail about that
from a QA tool. I am working on something like that for OSMonitor.
I feel there is a lot of work to be done in this "visualization and
reporting" area that could be useful to the local mapping communities.
It's good to know that someone too thinks about such stuff :-)
