Hi Mike,
I think the map to which you give links was referring to an earlier
earthquake (September 30, 2009).
The May 9, 2010 earthquake was more to the North, along the same coast,
and the closest town was Meulaboh :
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/pager/events/us/2010wbaq/index.html
(It is possible to register on this site to receive instant earthquakes
notifications by email).
There could be a need for a simple way to make similar maps with OSM
(especially for the areas where OSM coverage is better).
A instance derived from OpenStreetBugs was set up for Haiti, at
ose.petschge.de. (But it does not seem possible to add reports any more
(?)).
Maybe an option to add photos would be nice too (and could also benefit
OpenStreetBugs. Still there is a distinct usage between giving
information for improving the map and using the map for reporting event
information).
And to use markers of different colors, depending maybe on categories ?
For another example, see :

Best regards,
Jean-Guilhem
