HOT -

Based on some of the chat today, wanted to pass along some ideas for areas
where there is a need for more imagery and detailed maps. There has been a
little bit of imagery out there with a focus though on the refugee camps in
Kenya and Ethiopia, and parts of Mogadishu. I see a few other places of need
for more imagery to help boost the detail of existing maps and it'd be great
to start a conversation about this. I put the extent for each area I was
thinking about.

1. Outskirts of Mogadishu

- While there is some imagery in the Afgooye Cooridoor (locations of a large
number of IDPs), imagery on the outskirts Mogadishu seem like high priority
given the influx of people into the city.

Extent: 5007695.470176,215647.966011,5056003.672043,238540.855978

2. Bay Region

- This area has seen considerable amount of people arrive, or pass through
en route to Ethiopia, plus several larger cities. In addition, it's in the
middle of the southern regions and the situation on the ground isn't quite
as known as the border or within Mogadishu.

Extent: 4691704.795302,240776.639055,5078170.410243,423919.758793)

3. Bakool Region

- Similiar to the Bay Region, the situation on the ground doesn't seem to be
quite as known and it is a famine declared region.

Extent: 4711425.548596,381267.897018,5097891.163536,564411.016756

These are some of my initial thoughts about this conversation. We at
Development Seed have been putting together some maps of the existing
available data and I've seen that there is not a lot of data/information
coming out of the center of the country. Would be great to build that
capacity. Other thoughts?

Nate
