Hi, not sure if this fits your needs but please consider using the
OSGeo Live DVD image, it's based on Xubuntu and it has more than 40
open source software for geospatial. It is also  an active project
with two releases every year, quickstarts for all the soft, etc.

By the way it has also OSM software included as well as OSM data.
