I have been rethinking the diameter vs. circumference question and now think it might be better to not do any conversions but rather add the data in a way you get it from the source. Reason is that according to the species and individual circumstances, for the shape of the lower trunk there can be big variations, especially for older trees, because some instances are all but circular in section, so that the circumference is much bigger than it would be calculated from the diameter based on the circle formula. Diameter from this point of view is a better indicator for age/size than the circumference, because it depends less on the shape and you might reasonably expect the data creator has already contemplated/normalized shape anomalies.
