I think you'll find that a great many things (landuse polygons,
administrative boundaries, protected areas, ....) are conflated with
coastline ways, preventing doing this in an automated fashion.
It wouldn't astonish me to find a great many sections of coastline where
the mapping has been improved since the original import.
Please tread carefully.
