[OSM-newbies] Tagging Segments

OK, Hand in the air, I've been tagging segments.

The reason for this is osmarender did not seem to render roads on my laptop if I didn't.

Now I find out you are not supposed to tag segments.

How do I remove the tags using JOSM?

To select segments instead of ways the shortcut is <ALT> left click, but on my system (Ubuntu 6.10) this just selects move window instead DOH!
