Just had a look on tagwatch, and there doesn't seem to be much - there
are three examples of "stile=wood":
http://tagwatch.stoecker.eu/osmxapi/*%5Bstile=*%5D
but that doesn't sound as useful as e.g. "stile=ladders". Using the
description's OK, but I'd have thought that agreed tag values rather
than just some descriptive text would make sense here, especially when
routing software could usefully use this info. A quick look at the tags
used on stiles finds:
<tag k='description' v='A roughly 1 metre parapet wall needs
climbing to access footpath'/>
Which is very descriptive and extremely helpful when compiling written
instructions for a walking route, but not so much for routing software.
The likes of "bicycle=", "horse=", "steps=" and "maxheight=" do get
used occasionally though.
I add quite a few stiles, so feel free to suggest something.
Cheers,
Andy
(waiting for someone to accuse me of "tagging for the renderer")
