For searching the consensus, I think this (and another) list (/s) serves 
us. It's clear that we simplify the reality. We should do, because if we 
don't do, we have real "satellite map" ;-)

I think Richard's method is the most appropiate, because it is centered 
in the utility of the traffic_signals: putting the traffic signals _on_ 
the road, serves to us for knowing that this signals controls _this_ 
road, althogh it's near it. Putting it some meters near the road, yes 
it's the exact location of the signals, but for what it serves to us? 
What does this signal control?

Do you understand what I would express.... the english is not (clear) my 
native language ;-)
