Hi,

this is probably something that goes beyond the mandate of the
newly-founded membership group, hence Cc: board. Frankly I don't think
we should do a "special offer half price first year membership" because
it causes extra admin work, might upset those who pay the normal rate,
and also because I don't see how a £7.50 discount should tip the balance
for someone who has already forked out for a trip to NYC and a SOTM-US
ticket.

Other opinions?

Bye
Frederik

Frederik, Jonathan:

We just went live with the State of the Map US registration:
https://twitter.com/sotmus/status/560490935071834113

You'll see that there's no sign up option for OSM US nor OSMF on there.

We discussed over here in organization committee and decided to send out
an email to all attendees at a certain point specifically advertising to
become a member to OSM US. We'll offer alongside a 50 % discount on
first year of membership or similar (exact discount TBD).

Would you be interested in offering a similar discount in the same mailing?

Alex

Frederik - this is roughly what I was thinking, yes.

Another option would be to just hand out coupon codes that entitle
recipients to a reduced membership fee. This would be purely
promotional and we would share such coupon codes with everybody who
signs up for the conference. Would that be interesting?

    Upsides:

    - you don't need to worry about this coupon code being shared in the
wild - it's just a time limited promotion
    - you still drive sign ups
    - less friction - there is one decision point less: attendees don't
need to decide whether they want to sign up for osmf at the point of
signing up for conference, they get a coupon code either way at
    their free disposal

I am still prepping a couple of options to discuss with my board
    colleagues.

So the flow you'd be thinking about is something like this
        (correct me
        if wrong):

        1. We pre-generate a ton of coupon codes and send them to you

        2. When someone signs up for SOTM-US you give them a chance of
        joining
        OSMF for extra $$$

        3. When they check that box, they get one of the coupon codes

        4. but they will still have to go to the OSMF signup page (at a
        later
time) to register, and enter their coupon code to pay for their
        first year

        5. after a couple months, when the validity period of the coupons is
over, OSMF invoices OSMF-US for n times £15 depending on how many
        coupons were used

I suspect this should be technically possible (Jonathan, can you say
something about that?), of course you'd have to somehow manage
        to hand
out the individual coupon codes in the course of the Eventbrite
        signup.

We'd of course have to take this by the OSMF board and the new
membership group but regarding members I guess the more the
        merrier ;)

        Bye
        Frederik
