As said: yes the OSMF could have software projects, however doesn't at
this point in time. Doing it in a way that would be compatible with
getting external funding would likely require engagement by both the
board and the currently dormant EWG, "slightly" more formal than simply
spending some existing funds.
Wrt my suggested "small" projects: typically we wait till somebody feels
enough pain that they either write the software themselves or get
somebody to do so, recent cases at hand: subscription to diary post
comments, fixing the gravatar privacy issue or the large amount of work
Andy is doing on cleaning up the website code in general.
However when we have issues that doesn't rise to that level of pain for
any one specific individual or mismatch with the capabilities of those
interested. they tend to "never" get done, the 2 items I mentioned fall
in to this category.

PS: yes, there was a certain amount of goading involved in that post,
