[Osmf-talk] Candidacy: OSMF Board

Dear Simon,

My comments were made without any reference to my HOT membership, so I
object to having to declare anything. I am on OSMF member, posting to this
mailing list.

Again, you explaining my feelings to both myself and others, after
apparently not believing my own explanation, is not ok.

Your position in OSMF, actual or otherwise, does not extend to explaining
my emails on my behalf.

Thanks, Joseph

The affiliation with HOT doesn't disqualify you at all, but, just as it
would be expected anywhere else (literally), when commenting on matters
concerning the organization that you are affiliated with, even if it is
just peripheral as in this case, you should declare that affiliation up
front and not rely on the audience finding out some other way, if at all.

Simon

PS: this may seem somewhat overboard with respect to HOT voting members,
but HOT has a small closed membership that at least socially boils down to
far closer ties to the organisation that you would expect for your average
association or for example the OSMF.

Christoph, our affiliation with HOT should not disqualify us from
participating in this forum. We are all our osmf members just like you. I'm
also a paid member of OSM-US. I don't devalue your participation hear
because of your participation in your other OSM communities don't do the
same to us.

If anything working with HOT has given us a better perspective of the needs
of local OSM communities around the world. Honestly, I think OSMF members
would be well served to learn the hard learned lessons that HOT has
especially around the importance of how we talk to one another. The how is
almost as important as the what in many cases because it builds community
in a positive way and works to break down tribal barriers which you are
promoting by continually calling out our participation in HOT.
