In this case? Yes. Perhaps I'm used to Irish (& similar British) culture of directly stating criticism and flaws to someone as incredibly insulting, and potentially slanderous & defamatory. In Ireland, people even have a constituional right to their good name. One cannot be fully free to make frank, or critical, statements about people if everyone is watching every word.
