Indeed - i would encourage everyone to re-read the original announcement
of the plans of the board in:

where it said:

"This request for comment is expected to lead to adoption of community
structures that will not answer to the Board or be influenced by the
Board, in keeping with the OSM philosophy that the Board supports OSM
but does not tell anybody what to map or how to map."

The phrasing in the announcement ("terms of office") also kind of
implies a public position rather than an internal role within the OSMF.
