Hi,
I am Oliver. I have been negotiating mulit-million dollar contracts with
the commercial map providers during my last jobs at SiemensVDO and
Navigon while dealing with companies like NT, TA, Sensis, Zenrin,
MapMyIndia and AND. I learned a lot about the quality of maps, different
formats of maps, the value of map attributes and the different pricing
models in the markets. At my current job at skobbler we were started to
make GPS based turn-by-turn navigation a commodity and during this
journey most of the commercial map providers changed from friends to
enemies. So, my motivation comes straight from the heart: helping to
make OpenStreetMap the best map in the world and demonstrate that the
crowdsourcing approach is superior to any other approach of the
commercial map providers.
My personal goal for the next months is to steer the power of the
community in a direction that OpenStreetMap becomes and is perceived as
a competitive map in many different geographic areas and for many
different purposes. I also wish that OpenStreetMap builds upon its
strengths and also communicates these strengths to the outside world.
Looking forward to work with you,
Oliver
