I think that's the key question, and it could be further specified (once fortified or still fortified, would be relevant for many cases, e.g. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunrobin_Castle ).

PS: Many years ago we had similar discussions and by the time it had been proposed to use the German values "burg" and "schloss" as castle types, but this was heavily disputed by the time and the wiki was changed accordingly.
