I think sport=equestrian is a borderline case, even leisure=pitch seems
strange here. If practice_pitch takes off, maybe it'll be used, but I think
these cases would deserve an appropriate subtag and not pitch.
For what is tennis=wall needed? Woudn't leisure=practice_pitch +

I could see using practice_pitch=tennis_wall, but having
leisure=practice_pitch wouldn't be enough in my opinion, this would create
a limit of one type of practice pitch per sport. Speaking about tennis
specifically, there might be smaller than regulamentary pitches, or other
facilities we can't think of now, so why limit ourselves already? We need
to have the type info (wall) somewhere.
Someone looking for places to play tennis will likely search for "sport =

Sure, but that shouldn't be a reason to avoid adding more features. sport=*
is a generic tag linked to everything that deals with that sport, it
shouldn't point to a pitch alone.
Perhapy this could be avoided by better using something like:

Yes, practice is almost unused as a tag (only relevant use is as
golf=practice), but even here we'd need subtags to distinguish the
different practice pitches, and that's why I think having it as a subtag of
the sport in question (e.g. tennis=wall, or even tennis:practice=wall)
would be best
