Paul, no need to combine your criticism with an introductory insult. This could have been said the same way without personifying the statement.

I agree with the notion that this would be introducing semantical problems, at least from what I have understood the term “scrub” means, and its application on manicured shrubs in a garden, maybe it is still not too much of a stretch. I think I would appreciate a tag for individual items (natural=shrub), so that natural=scrub remains a tag for areas, and as there is already a well established tag for hedges (barrier=hedge for which the suggested subtag “cultivated” could make sense)

The scrub:density concept seems interesting and worth pursuing, at least regarding the values “sparse” and “dense” I could imagine we come up with a useful and verifiable definition, my suggestion would be “you can easily walk between” and “moving through it requires a lot of time and possibly tools”. Some values in between are needed as well, but I’m not sure it’s only one.
