Even those familiar with Wikipedia editing still find talk pages to be
error-prone and confusing at times, especially when someone attempts to
respond point by point or forgets to sign their name. It's arcane, for sure.

Fortunately, the MediaWiki project is working on some long-needed
usability improvements to talk pages, adopting some conveniences that we
take for granted when using forum software. The features are currently
deployed on Wikimedia wikis while they're in active development. [1]

By the way, there's a parallel discussion on the Community site about
discussing tagging on talk pages versus that site. [2]
