[Tagging] International and UN names

Dear all,

I would like to ask 2 questions related to international names on OSM:

  * Is there any clear guidance on the reference body used for international names? On OSM there is an int_name=* tag which is described on the wiki as following:

int_name User defined node way area International name (note: consider using language specific names instead; e.g., name:en=... - see above – International does not (necessarily) mean English).

There are currently 583 691 OSM objects<https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/int_name> with such tag according to TagInfo

  * If the UN headquarters would like share authoritative names on OSM in the 6 UN official languages would name:UN:ar, name:UN:zh, name:UN:en, name:UN:fr, name:UN:ru, name:UN:es do the job?

According to TagInfo, there are currently 44 name:UN and 14 name:UN:*, not many.

If this would be the solution, shall we document this naming on https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Multilingual_names as a specific entry, especially stating that, as being open data, it couldn't be trusted 100% at any time? Obviously, we will keep an eye on this tag if we decide to go ahead with it.
Also, what would be the right procedure for us to follow to have those on OSM?

name:UN:* or int_name would be beneficial for all UN entities and agencies, funds and programs using OSM to ingest UN authoritative names in their products.

Thanks,
Michael, UN Mappers<https://mappers.un.org/>
