[Talk-ca] Biking networks in Canada tagging

...
we can post that onto the wiki project canada site (thats why i left it open)

What I know so far is this.

Tagging

TCT - Trans Canada Trail (only the trails which have the official stamp) (the stamp list is on the POI file i made)
-what i dont know yet, and i havent heard back from the Trans Canada Trail Foundation is if they plan on bringing up the trail to become the national trail network. ... cause its a multi-use, multi-surface trail.
Zoom in on PEI for example on the TCtrail.ca site. You see that its not 1 single connected route, rather a network of many triails.
My guess is that the ones in Quebec, as there is the ''route de vert''
each set of trails are run by each different province.
The Ontario Trails council has all the trails for ontario. ... each are marked differently.
..
We see in BC that the Trails BC has their own trail marker for alot of different trails.

(thinking about the trails in Lower mainland, how the dyke trails are regional trails. ... not part of the TCT)
..

I dont think we should be tagging trails if its not physically marked.

Perhaps the 'Across Canada Trails -footpath' tag that i did for Sidney should be removed? .. as these are Virtual only (part of the network) and no official designation has been set.

However, A reason that we CAN tag the route something that is different than what the National Trails Council is thinking, is because its a Virtual route. .. and doesnt interfer with the local politics. (thats the reason why the Trans Canada Trail is so hard todo. ... everyone wants to buy-sell land, and give permission. ... when im going about it in the opposite way. ... having the trail simply avoiding those land owners who dont want to give right-of-way to this virtual railway line.. (sticking a virtual stake in the ground directing people where to go, if they disagree then the stake can be moved or relabled easily)

(A side note: Im watching the move 'canada: A people's History' where the railway line, literally ties the country together. .. so taking a railline off the grid, means that the town build around the railway dissapears. Rails-to-Trails organization has a big part in this iniciative. :)

So anyway... there is already a set level to the national trails network. (until Trans Canada Trail wants to take over)

CN Rail -
CP Rail -
in newfoundland they call it the T'Rail

Canadian National Trails Network - CN T'Rail (CNT) ?

NHN -National Hiking Trail network

> NCN - we leave blank for now

> RCN - This is any cycle network beyond a single municipality, such as
Regional Cycle Network?

> the GG and LRT here in Victoria
Galoping Goose, Lochside Recreational Trail
> LCN - any municipal efforts, such as the Saanich Centennial Trails
Local Cycling network?
> here in Victoria

There are Gravel trails, Dirt Trails, and paved trails. and highway shoulder trails. ... all of these are incorporated at some point on the Trans Canada Trail.

And we have Cycling, hiking, mountain biking. .... expedition touring bike. ... horseback riding .. ATVing.

So its not JUST cycling. ... (although, its a major recreation)

>> What i'll do is post screenshots of it. that may help.

So to save people time...
using wikiloc.com jordie has a few more trails listed now (besides by 56).. 20 have been posted by others.
http://wikiloc.com/wikiloc/search.do?all=yes&from=0&to=50&res=on&activity=&country=CA&near=Canada
http://wikiloc.com/wikiloc/home.do

Looks like the site is getting more popular.

(Hopefully that wasnt endless rambling, as before)

Cheers,
Sam
