I know that you didn't ask, but... if you plan to contribute these
tracings to OpenStreetMap, that map scan must be from a permitted
source. That would include maps that have expired copyright (50 years
after the death of the author according to Canadian copyright law), or
a map licensed to you to permit tracing / derivation.
If this is a permitted source, please add it to the imports catalogue,

I've not used this plugin, but perhaps we can all work through this
together. Does your map tell you what projection and scale it is
drawn in? That might be important.
