They're normally between about 1945 and 1956. The absolute latest would be
1956, due to the 50-year out of copyright rule.

Did try that originally, but I found the standard "Freemap" icons did not show
up very well against the NPE background. However I can try with some slightly
brighter colours.

It's certainly a possibility - but would users have a problem with Freemap
taking their OSM login details (even if they were simply forwarded straight
to OSM). Steve - any opinion on this?
